About Skaneateles Dental Associates

  

Our office is a general practice  delivering quality care in all phases of dentistry.  The practice is located in Skaneateles, New York, a village in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York, near Syracuse.  It is a most unique setting offering the very best quality lifestyle, recreation, and culture.

The practice, established in 1981 by Dr. John J. Turner, is a quality oriented fee-for-service partnership.  Dr. Rebecca G. Anderson joined the practice in 2003 and has subsequently become a partner of Skaneateles Dental Associates.   In 2010 Dr. Joshua M. Souweine joined the practice and in 2015 he and Dr. Anderson became partners.  

Dr. Michelle Phillips is our newest welcome addition.  She has been practicing with us since August 2019.  The office is conveniently located on Route 20 just west of the Village of Skaneateles.

Dr. Joshua M. Souweine, D.D.S

  

Dr. Joshua M. Souweine graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended Indiana University School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. After finishing an additional year of education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Souweine completed his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Souweine, a native of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, realized that he liked Upstate New York so much he decided to call it home in early 2006.  After working at several private practices in the Rochester area, he has been with Skaneateles Dental Associates since November 2010. 

An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Souweine has a sincere love of nature and photography. Some of his photographs are framed and displayed on the walls of the office.   

He also has assisted at clinics in the Geneva, Sodus, and Brockport areas that focus their efforts on the under-served and migrant populations. Dr. Souweine is also active in “Dentistry For All”, which is an international group that travels to Central America to perform dental work to areas that don’t have access to dental care.  

In 2015 Dr. Souweine became partners with Dr. Anderson.  Since then they have expanded the office keeping true to the ideals that make Skaneateles Dental Associates such a special place.

Dr. Rebecca Anderson, D.D.S.

  

Dr. Rebecca Anderson is a native of Western New York. Growing up on the outskirts of Lockport, she learned the value of hard work at a young age. When she was 14 she began employment at a local farm. Her love of the outdoors led her into landscape design and maintenance in addition to farm work, which she continued through Dental school. To this day her passion for landscaping and gardening remains strong. She also enjoys camping, hiking, and kayaking with her friends and family. 

Dr. Anderson received a Bachelor of Science degree and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from the University of Buffalo. She then continued her education and graduated magna cum laude with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Buffalo. She then moved to Rochester, NY where she completed her residency at Eastman Dental Center. 

Dr. Anderson proudly joined Skaneateles Dental Associates in July, 2003. She is an active member of the Dawson Academy in an effort to deliver the highest quality and most up to date dentistry possible. Dr. Anderson is dedicated to providing a positive patient experience and always strives to achieve excellence in all aspects of dental care.

Dr. John Turner, D.D.S

  

Dr. John J. Turner graduated from Niagara University with a degree in education in 1972. After two years of teaching, he entered the healthcare profession working with the open heart surgery team at Upstate Medical Center for several years. He attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1981.

Born and raised in Skaneateles, NY, Dr. Turner returned to his home town in 1981 to start his dental practice. He opened a small office in the center of the village on Jordan Street. In 1999, he outgrew this space and relocated to the west side of Skaneateles more than tripling the size of his old office. He could often be found helping in the construction of his new office. 

In 2012 Dr. Turner sold the practice to Dr. Anderson, and has since continued seeing patients and mentoring in the practice.  

Dr. Turner enjoys golf, scuba diving, and travelling to Florida. He is also known as “Mr. Fix-It” around the office.

Dr. Stephen Schwartz, D.D.S

Born in Kingston, NY and graduated Kingston High School in 1956.

Dr. Schwartz graduated from the University of Buffalo with Bachelor of Science degree in 1960. 

He then attended and graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dentistry in 1964 with a degree of Dental Surgery. 

He served the United States Air Force Dental Corps from 1964-1966, stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.  Dr. Schwartz practiced General Dentistry in Elbridge, NY from 1966 – 2012.  He joined Skaneateles Dental Associates in January of 2013.    

Outside of the office Dr. Schwartz has 2 children with his wife Ros. They have 5 grandchildren. He enjoys and active life style of Golf, Boating, Fishing, Hiking, and donating time to the Skaneateles Rotary Club.

Dr. Michelle Phillips, D.D.S.

 

Dr. Michelle Phillips was born and raised in Binghamton, NY. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Le Monye College. She continued her education at SUNY Upstate Medical, receiving a Master’s in Public Health. She then graduated from University at Buffalo, obtaining a degree in Doctorate of Dental Surgery.

After completing her Doctorate, she moved back to Syracuse to complete her general practice residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Here she gained valuable experience in all areas of dentistry and was able to learn from many local dentists in the Syracuse region. After spending a year in Niagara Falls, NY, she has moved back to the area to be closer to home.

When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Phillips likes to spend time keeping active, and enjoying the outdoors with her dog. She also enjoys giving back when possible. Last spring, she attended a mission trip to the Dominican Republic to provide care to remote villages with limited access to medical care. She strives to stay up to date with all the new advances in dentistry and provide exceptional work.
